Our Mission Founded on the premise that sharing quality food and drink is essential to the quality of human existence, The American Institute of Wine & Food is a nonprofit educational organization with membership open to all. The AIWF is dedicated to promoting the message of health and well-being through the enjoyment of good food and drink and the fellowship that comes from eating together around the table. Membership When you become a member of The AIWF, you’ll join thousands of others who are committed to improving the understanding and appreciation of food and drink. And in doing that, you’ll help share the spirit of our diverse cultural and culinary heritage with generations to come. The AIWF was founded as a 501(c)(3) non-profit charitable organization in 1981 by Julia Child, Robert Mondavi and the late Richard Graff to provide a forum for the study of fine food and drink. Today, the organization has over 30 chapters in the United States and one in France, with a diverse membership that includes both food and wine professionals and dedicated enthusiasts, all of whom share a passion for the pleasures and traditions of the table. The Ray Wellington Wine Education Scholarship Fund was named in honor of the Chairman of the New York Chapter of The AIWF from 1990-1992 who was an active supporter of our educational mission until his death in 1992. Ray’s career in the wine industry began at Windows on the World, where he started as a busboy and rose to the position of Director of Wine Services. He went on to work as the Wine Director of the New York Restaurant Group, working with the management and staff of the Manhattan Ocean Club, Cité, Smith and Wollensky, and the Post House on wine and service training, as well as managing the restaurants’ stellar cellars. The purpose of the Ray Wellington Wine Education Scholarship program is to enable young people to pursue their wine studies and discover the fire in their bellies and on their palates, both of which will lead them to a fulfilling, productive, and passionate career in the world of wine. |
