Great Wine Picks from January to March 2001 events
The first four wines are new wines we discovered at our events so far this year, all in the under $25 category, which are available from wine merchants in the NYC area.
Millbrook Pinot Noir 1998: nice flavors of cherries and blackberries, with a moderate backbone of tannins. 91 points. Drink from now to 2010. $24. Available at Vintage New York
Cerreto Arneis Blange 1998: a nice rich wine, with a green apple flavors and an oaky finish. Made from the Arneis grape which is something different for most of us. 90 points. $17.50 at Union Square Wines
Falesco Merlot 1999: a nice solid wine from Italy. Normally I do not like Merlot, but this wine has very nice characteristics of Italian terrior, which offsets the syrupy nature of the merlot grape. A very solid wine. 92 points. This wine should keep for 10 to 15 years. $20 a bottle at Union Square Wines.
Cambria Katherine’s Vineyard Chardonnay 1999: big buttery wine, with flavors of butterscotch and oakiness. 91 points. Drink over the next 5 years. $18 a bottle at Unoin Square Wines.
And here are 3 wines from last years picks which we very successfully continue to serve at our events:
BV Rutherford Cabernet Sauvignon 1997: $19 a bottle from Union Square Wines
Leasingham Bin 61 Shiraz 1998: $16 a bottle from Union Square Wines and Silver Spirits
Stone Haven Chardonnay 1999: $9 a bottle from Union Square Wines and Silver Spirits
